Raja Ampat Boat Tour — Private Charter & Expedition Guide

Private Charter & Expedition Guide

Raja Ampat
Boat Tours

Fifteen hundred islands across 40,000 square kilometres. Boat-based exploration here is not a recommendation, it is the only way — your vessel is transport and accommodation at once, moving between dive sites, empty beaches and village jetties.

Four Ways to Do It

Pick the Shape of Your Trip

Private Yacht Charter

The pinnacle — the vessel and the schedule are entirely yours.

From traditional phinisi sailing vessels to modern motor yachts. Complete itinerary flexibility, dedicated crew, private chef and dive guide. If the wildlife does something interesting, you stay; if the weather turns, you move. Nobody else votes.

Price

$3,500 – $50,000+ per day

Best for

Families, couples, groups wanting exclusivity

Whole vessel, no other guests

Itinerary rewritten daily if you want

Private chef and dedicated dive guide

Phinisi through to superyacht

Liveaboard Expedition

Scheduled departures built around maximum time underwater.

Purpose-built dive vessels carrying twelve to twenty-four guests, with professional guides, nitrox onboard, camera rooms and structured itineraries that hit the major sites. The most popular option for serious divers.

Price

$3,000 – $8,000 per person

Best for

Serious divers wanting maximum dives

6 to 10 day expeditions, all inclusive

Nitrox and camera room as standard

Professional guides and marine biologists

Fixed departures — book the date, not the boat

Day Trip

Speedboat out and back, based from Waisai, Sorong or a resort.

The Dampier Strait highlights within reach in a single day: Melissa’s Garden, Arborek village, the Kabui Bay passages and the Sawandarek reefs. Wayag is possible but the transit eats most of the day.

Price

$150 – $500 per person

Best for

Short stays and first tastes

Guide, fuel, permits and lunch included

Snorkelling gear provided

No overnight commitment

Wayag possible but transit-heavy

Multi-Day Speedboat

Speedboat mobility with homestay nights on local islands.

Covers far more ground than day trips while keeping the cost accessible. The trade is simpler accommodation — and the gain is genuine cultural immersion: village stays, local meals, and time with the Papuan communities who have protected these waters for generations.

Price

$200 – $400 per person per day

Best for

Independent travellers, cultural interest

Homestay accommodation on local islands

More ground covered than a day trip

Direct village interaction

Simple facilities — set expectations accordingly

Matching Format to Trip Length

One day

Speedboat day trip

Dampier Strait only. Enough for a genuine taste, not enough for Wayag.

4–6 days

Private charter or liveaboard

Dampier Strait properly, plus Piaynemo. The most common first trip.

7–10 days

Private charter

North plus Wayag, with room for weather to move you without losing a destination.

12+ days

Expedition charter

North and Misool together — the only way to reach the southern reserve unhurried.

Choosing a Boat

Frequently Asked Questions

Private charter or liveaboard?

If your group can fill most of a vessel, private charter usually costs less per person than you expect and buys total flexibility. If you are two divers wanting maximum dives, a scheduled liveaboard is more efficient.

Can I do Wayag as a day trip?

Technically yes, from Waisai — three to four hours each way by speedboat. You will spend most of the day in transit. On any itinerary of six days or more, reach it by charter instead.

Are day trips worth it if I only have 48 hours?

Yes. Dampier Strait is genuinely world class and it is close. You will see mantas at Arborek and reef that beats most destinations outright — you simply will not see the karst landscapes.

What is included in a day trip price?

Guide, fuel, marine park permits, lunch and snorkelling gear. Diving is usually quoted separately because tank and guide ratios change the cost.
