Weather Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Air temperature ranges 27-32°C (80-90°F) year-round with virtually no seasonal variation. Water temperature stays at a warm 28-30°C. There is no cold season — only wetter and drier periods. You will never need a jacket for warmth.

Raja Ampat receives rainfall year-round as a tropical equatorial destination. During dry season (October-April), rain typically comes as brief 1-2 hour afternoon showers that clear quickly. During wet season (May-September), rain is more frequent and can last several hours. Rain rarely cancels diving — underwater conditions remain excellent.

Yes, but with caveats. July is peak wet season with the strongest southeast trade winds (10-25 knots). Northern sites may be inaccessible on choppy days. However, southern Misool is sheltered and offers excellent diving year-round. Prices are 20-30% lower. If you're flexible on sites and want value, July works — just book with experienced operators who know sheltered alternatives.

November through February offers the best overall conditions — calmest seas, best visibility (30-40m), lightest winds, and peak manta ray season. January-February specifically combines excellent weather with the start of post-holiday price drops. October and March-April are excellent transition months with good conditions and moderate pricing.

A light rain jacket is useful for sudden tropical showers, especially during evening transfers by tender boat. On luxury vessels, you're sheltered most of the time. Rain rarely lasts more than 1-2 hours during dry season. During wet season, a packable waterproof layer is more important.
