Shoulder Season (March — April): Excellent conditions continue with fewer visitors. Warm water and good visibility. Recommended for those seeking quieter experiences.
Off Season (May — September): Rougher seas make transit to Wayag challenging. Still possible on extended luxury charters with flexible routing.
How to Arrive
How to Get to Wayag
Wayag is located in northern Waigeo Island, approximately 3-4 hours by speedboat from Waisai. Most visitors access Wayag as part of a multi-day liveaboard or private charter itinerary.
By Liveaboard / Charter: The most common and comfortable way. Luxury phinisi and yacht charters include Wayag on 6+ day itineraries. Vessels anchor overnight in the protected lagoon.
By Speedboat from Waisai: Day trips are possible but involve 6-8 hours total transit time. Recommended only for those with limited time.
Getting to Sorong: All journeys begin with a flight to Sorong (SOQ) from Jakarta or Bali.
