Raja Ampat Diving Liveaboard — World-Class Dive Sites, Premium Vessels 2026

A Raja Ampat diving liveaboard is the ultimate pilgrimage for serious divers. With 3 to 4 dives daily across the most biodiverse marine ecosystem on Earth, you will explore sites that consistently rank among the world’s top ten — from the manta ray superhighway at Manta Sandy to the world-record fish count at Cape Kri, where 374 species were documented in a single dive. No resort-based operation can match the access, frequency, and variety of diving that a dedicated liveaboard provides.

Raja Ampat’s waters contain over 1,500 species of reef fish and 600 species of hard coral — more than 75% of all known coral species on the planet. The convergence of Pacific and Indian Ocean currents creates nutrient-rich upwellings that attract everything from pygmy seahorses to oceanic manta rays, whale sharks, and reef sharks. A diving liveaboard puts you directly at these sites before dawn, when marine life is most active and visibility often exceeds 30 meters.

What Makes a Diving Liveaboard Different

Unlike general luxury cruises that balance diving with island exploration, a diving liveaboard is purpose-built for underwater adventurers. The daily schedule revolves around diving: early morning dive at first light (when pelagics are most active), mid-morning dive, afternoon dive, and optional night dive. Between dives, the vessel repositions to the next site while you review photos in the dedicated camera room, rinse equipment on the spacious dive deck, or relax with enriched air nitrox flowing through the fill station.

Key differences from standard cruise vessels include: dedicated dive deck with individual equipment stations, onboard compressor and nitrox system, camera rinse tanks and charging stations, dive tenders for quick site access, certified dive guides with thousands of local dives logged, and itineraries designed to maximize dive site variety and conditions.

Dive Sites You Will Explore

A typical 7-day diving liveaboard covers 18-24 dives across 12-16 different sites. Highlights include:

Blue Magic — Raja Ampat’s signature dive: manta rays circling a seamount while grey reef sharks patrol below and massive schools of barracuda swirl overhead. Cape Kri — The world record holder for fish species diversity. Manta Sandy — Reliable manta ray cleaning station with encounters almost guaranteed October through April. Boo Windows — Dramatic swim-throughs draped in vibrant soft corals. The Passage — A unique freshwater river flowing through the sea between Waigeo and Gam. Friwen Wall — A vertical wall covered in sea fans and soft corals, excellent for macro photography.

Diving Itineraries

Our 7-day diving expedition covers the greatest hits of northern Raja Ampat. For the ultimate experience, the 10-day explorer adds Misool’s pristine southern reefs. Quick options include the 5-day discovery focusing on Dampier Strait sites.

What Certification Do You Need?

Minimum PADI Open Water (or equivalent) is required. We strongly recommend Advanced Open Water certification, as several sites feature moderate to strong currents that require confident drift diving skills. Nitrox certification is highly beneficial — most sites are in the 15-30 meter range where nitrox extends bottom time significantly. Several vessels offer nitrox courses onboard.

Non-diving companions are welcome on all our vessels — Raja Ampat offers world-class snorkeling at virtually every dive site.
