Raja Ampat Crossing Season Calendar 2026/2027
The ocean doesn’t follow a calendar. It follows wind patterns, monsoons, and seasonal current shifts. If you’re diving or liveaboarding in Raja Ampat, understanding seasonal windows isn’t just academic—it determines whether you have 4-5 calm dives daily or 2-3 dives between weather delays. It’s the difference between seeing reef in bright, stable conditions and seeing reef through haze and surge. Juara Holding Group has 10+ years of seasonal data across our 50+ vessel fleet. This calendar reflects that real-world experience, not tourism brochure idealism.
Month-by-Month Breakdown: Dives, Weather, Pricing, and Route Availability
JANUARY 2026 & 2027: Peak Holidays, Expensive, Mixed Diving
Season: Wet/monsoon tail end. Average water temp: 28-29°C. Visibility: 30-60m (variable). Diving: 3-4 dives per day, with weather delays possible. Pricing: 30-40% premium above average. Availability: Very limited—book 8+ months ahead. Route options: Raja Ampat Classic (if you’re flexible on dates), Grand Circuit (if you’ve booked 12+ months ahead).
January is Christmas/New Year extension period. Families travel, businesses book, pricing surges. If you’re targeting early January 2026, book now (before June 2025). If you’re flexible, February offers better value and more stable weather.
Our recommendation: Unless January has sentimental meaning (anniversary, birthday, family commitment), skip it. February is calmer, less crowded, and better value.
FEBRUARY 2026 & 2027: Transition Month, Variable Conditions, Moderate Pricing
Season: Tail end of wet season, beginning to dry out. Water temp: 28-29°C. Visibility: 40-80m (improves mid-month). Diving: 3-4 dives per day most days. Pricing: Standard to slight premium. Availability: Good—4-5 months advance booking sufficient. Route options: All routes operational, but Komodo/Flores less ideal (still relatively wet). Recommended: Raja Ampat Classic, Extended, Banda Sea (if sea state permits).
February is actually underrated. Tourism is dropping post-holidays, prices are dropping, and visibility is improving. If you book February 2026 in September 2025, you’ll get good rates and good conditions. We run 4-5 crossing departures in February.
MARCH 2026 & 2027: Monsoon Tail, Pasola Festival (Sumba), Improving Conditions
Season: Wet season officially ending. Water temp: 28-29°C. Visibility: 60-100m (continues to improve). Diving: 4 dives per day most days. Pricing: Moderate. Availability: Good. Route options: All routes operational. Special note: March is Pasola festival month in Sumba (traditional horseman spear-throwing festival). If Sumba+RA is your interest and you want to see Pasola, target early March. Check exact dates yearly (usually Feb 22-Mar 22).
March is the sweet spot for Sumba+RA crossings. You get the cultural festival, reasonable weather, and improving diving conditions. Book September-October 2025 for March 2026 departures.
APRIL 2026 & 2027: Dry Season Begins, Best Komodo Conditions, Peak Availability
Season: Transition to dry season. Water temp: 28°C. Visibility: 80-120m (excellent). Diving: 4-5 dives per day, very consistent. Pricing: Moderate to premium (peak dry season beginning). Availability: Very good but books fast. Route options: All routes optimal. Komodo in peak condition. Flores+RA at sweet spot. Our peak season really starts here.
April is a critical month. Komodo officially opens to optimal diving (May-September is true Komodo season, April is the tail of good conditions before wind shifts in May). If Komodo+RA or Flores+RA is your goal, April is your best-value month for optimal conditions. Book October-November 2025 for April 2026. Early April typically has slightly lower prices than late April.
MAY 2026 & 2027: Dry Season Peak, Komodo Optimal, Sumba Peak
Season: Full dry season. Water temp: 27-28°C. Visibility: 100-130m (excellent). Diving: 4-5 dives daily, very stable. Pricing: High (peak season). Availability: Limited—book 5-6 months ahead. Route options: All routes, but especially Komodo (May-Sep is Komodo’s prime diving window), Sumba+RA (dry, excellent conditions everywhere).
May is genuinely peak. Every tour operator in the region is running. Accommodation fills weeks in advance. Pricing is 15-25% above average. But conditions are excellent everywhere in Indonesia. If you want guaranteed perfect weather and don’t mind premium pricing, May delivers. Book November-December 2024 for May 2025, and now (before June 2025) for May 2026.
JUNE 2026 & 2027: Dry Season Height, Stable, High Pricing
Season: Peak dry season. Water temp: 26-27°C (slightly cooler). Visibility: 120+ m (typically excellent). Diving: 4-5 dives daily, very reliable. Pricing: High. Wind: Beginnings of stronger southeast trade winds. Availability: Limited. Route options: All routes; Forgotten Islands becomes more feasible (sea state allowing access to remote northern sites).
June is excellent diving but premium pricing and crowding. For repeat RA visitors who’ve done the main sites and want to access Forgotten Islands, June-July are prime windows for that specialized route. Otherwise, consider May (similar conditions) or July (slightly less crowded).
JULY 2026 & 2027: Peak Dry Season, European School Holidays, Higher Pricing and Crowds
Season: Peak dry season continuing. Water temp: 26°C (coolest month). Visibility: 100-130m. Diving: 4-5 dives daily, excellent consistency. Pricing: High (European school holidays boost demand). Wind: Strong southeast trade winds, but conditions still diveable. Availability: Very limited. Route options: All routes operational; Forgotten Islands accessible.
July brings European families on summer holidays. That means higher demand, higher pricing, and more crowded resorts/boats. If you’re booking July, do so now (before June 2025). If you want good conditions without the crowds, skip July and go May, June, or August.
AUGUST 2026 & 2027: Late Dry Season, Lower Crowds Than July, Excellent Conditions
Season: Late dry season. Water temp: 26-27°C. Visibility: 100-130m. Diving: 4-5 dives daily, consistent. Wind: Southeast trades still strong but manageable. Pricing: Moderate-high (not quite as premium as May-July). Availability: Good—3-4 months advance booking sufficient. Route options: All routes operational.
August is our recommendation for people who want peak-season conditions without absolute peak-season pricing or crowds. European families are back in school by late August. Conditions are still excellent. Pricing is slightly lower. This is an underrated month in the 2026/27 seasonal cycle. Book May-June 2026 for August 2026 departures.
SEPTEMBER 2026 & 2027: Dry Season Tail, Komodo Still Optimal, Conditions Declining Late Month
Season: Late dry season. Water temp: 27-28°C. Visibility: 80-120m (starts declining by month end). Diving: 4 dives per day early month, 3-4 by month end. Wind: Trade winds easing, but late month can bring variable conditions. Pricing: Moderate. Availability: Good. Route options: All routes still viable. Komodo excellent early September, less reliable late September.
September is the swing month. Early September has late-dry-season conditions. Late September begins the transition to wet season. If you book Komodo-inclusive crossing, aim for early-to-mid September. By late September, Komodo sea states become less predictable. For pure Raja Ampat diving, September is fine throughout. Book April-May 2026 for September 2026.
OCTOBER 2026 & 2027: Transition Month, Best Banda Sea Conditions, Prime Forgotten Islands Window
Season: Transition to wet season, but October is special—it’s the best month for Banda Sea pelagic diving and remote island access. Water temp: 27-28°C. Visibility: 80-120m. Diving: 4 dives per day. Wind: Trade winds easing, creating optimal conditions for open-ocean routes. Pricing: Moderate. Availability: Very good. Route options: Banda Sea route (October is OPTIMAL for this—schedule accordingly), Forgotten Islands Loop (October is one of only two prime months), Raja Ampat Extended, Classic.
October is criminally underrated. The monsoon transition creates perfect pelagic conditions. If Banda Sea diving (big fish, hammerheads, sharks) is your goal, October is your month. If macro and Forgotten Islands interest you, October is one of only two viable windows (November is the other). Book May-June 2025 for October 2026. October departures fill fast despite being shoulder-season pricing.
NOVEMBER 2026 & 2027: Season Transition, Forgotten Islands Window Closing, Weather Variable
Season: Beginning of wet season. Water temp: 27-28°C. Visibility: 60-100m (variable). Diving: 3-4 dives per day, with potential weather delays. Wind: Monsoon beginning, variable conditions. Pricing: Moderate (good value). Availability: Good. Route options: Forgotten Islands Loop (LAST MONTH for this route—November only), Banda Sea still viable early November, other routes navigable with flexibility on dive numbers.
November is the critical transition. It’s the last month for Forgotten Islands specialized diving. If that interests you, book now and target November 2026. By late November, monsoon rains increase and sea state becomes more variable. Standard routes are still operable but expect 3-4 dives per day instead of 4-5. Pricing is good value—fewer tourists, lower demand. Book May-July 2025 for November 2026.
DECEMBER 2026 & 2027: Wet Season Settling, Holiday Pricing Begins, Moderate to Lower Diving
Season: Wet season established. Water temp: 28-29°C. Visibility: 40-80m (variable). Diving: 3-4 dives per day, weather delays common. Wind: Monsoon active, unpredictable. Pricing: Moderate early month, premium late month (Christmas approaching). Availability: Good early month, very limited late month. Route options: All routes operational but more weather-dependent. Raja Ampat Classic or Extended possible but expect fewer dives daily.
December splits: Early December is moderate conditions and good pricing. Mid-December through December 31 is holiday premium pricing, heavy crowding, and more weather delays. If you want December, avoid Dec 15-31. If you want late December for holidays, book before June 2025 and expect 30-40% premium.
