Luxury Catamaran Charter in Raja Ampat — Stability, Space & Elegance

Over ten years in Raja Ampat, we’ve learned that the difference between a forgettable boat trip and an unforgettable luxury experience is the hull design. Our two custom phinisi schooners are wide-hulled, double-ended catamarans—designed for the exact waters of Raja Ampat. We’ve carried honeymoon couples, multi-generational families, corporate teams, and adventure seekers. The common thread: guests step onboard expecting a typical charter boat and discover something rare. The deck space is genuinely expansive. The cabins are genuinely private. The crew anticipates your needs before you voice them. By day 3, nobody wants to leave.

Why Catamaran Design Matters in Raja Ampat

Most charter boats are monohulls—narrow, deep, designed for speed. We deliberately chose wide-hulled catamaran design because Raja Ampat’s waters demand it. The archipelago has strong tidal flows, protected passages between islands, and frequent wind shifts. A wide hull creates a low center of gravity, exceptional stability, and minimal rolling motion. Translation: you wake up without nausea. Your grandmother enjoys snorkeling without gripping the railings. Dining happens on deck without spilled wine. Motion sickness medication stays in our medical kit because nobody needs it.

The Deck Space Difference

Our phinisis feature 1,200–1,400 square feet of upper deck space. We’ve designed this deliberately. You have a shaded lounge area (for the 2pm heat nap). A sunbathing platform (for the 6am sunrise). A meeting deck (for the corporate workshop). A dive staging area (for gearing up). And crucially, enough space that 16–18 guests never feel crowded. Contrast this with typical 40–50 foot charters offering maybe 400 square feet total. We’ve had guests tell us they’ve chartered larger vessels with fewer people and felt more cramped.

Cabin Comfort & Privacy

We operate 8–9 private cabins per vessel. Each features a queen or twin bed, a private ensuite bathroom (with hot water), air conditioning, portholes for natural light, and storage for two weeks of gear. No shared dormitory-style cabins. No “oh, we can squeeze four people in here” nonsense. Every cabin is climate-controlled, genuinely private, and designed so couples can have intimacy and solo travelers can retreat. Crew quarters are entirely separate, maintaining professionalism and your privacy.

Professional Crew & Service Philosophy

We operate with a crew-to-guest ratio of 1:3. That’s 5–6 crew members per vessel (captain, dive master, first mate, chef, stewards). Our captain has 20+ years piloting these waters. Our chef trained in Denpasar and understands both Indonesian and Western palates. Our dive masters hold PADI instructor certifications. We’ve deliberately chosen to stay small so that every crew member knows every guest’s name by breakfast on day 2. Service isn’t transactional—it’s anticipatory. Your coffee appears before you ask. Your dive gear is rinsed and organized. Your towels are fresh daily.

Daily Rhythm & Activities

A typical day: 6am wake-up call with coffee and fruit on deck (sunrise is non-negotiable). 7:30am first dive or snorkel (2 hours). 10am return to vessel, breakfast, rest. 1pm second dive or island exploration. 4pm return to vessel, shower, rest. 6:30pm sunset aperitif on deck. 8pm dinner (three courses, wine included). 10pm sleep. We adjust this rhythm based on guest preferences, weather, and wildlife sightings. Some days are packed. Some days we anchor in a lagoon and nobody leaves the deck.

Dining & Culinary Experience

Our chef prepares Indonesian and international cuisine daily. We source fresh fish from local fishermen, tropical fruits from island markets, and rice/proteins from Sorong. Breakfast is an all-you-want spread (omelets, fresh fruit, pastries, yogurt, coffee). Lunch is typically a light affair (salads, sandwiches, fresh ceviche). Dinner is formal—three courses, plated presentation, wine pairings. We accommodate dietary restrictions (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, allergies) with advance notice. We also offer cooking classes with our chef on request, teaching guests to prepare Indonesian seafood dishes.

Diving & Water Activities

Raja Ampat is consistently ranked in the world’s top 3 diving destinations. We offer daily dives at sites like The Passage, Cape Kri, and Wai Island. Our dive master briefing covers marine life, current hazards, and buddy protocols. We’ve arranged diving for everyone from certified advanced divers to absolute beginners (we offer PADI open water courses onboard, $500 per person). For non-divers: snorkeling at the same sites yields 70–80% of the experience (colorful reef fish, coral gardens, occasionally turtles and sharks). Kayaking, island hiking, and beachcombing round out the daily menu.

Weather & Sailing Season

Raja Ampat’s ideal season runs January–May and September–November. Weather during these windows is calm, visibility is excellent (40–60ft), and the water is warm (78–82°F). July–August sees occasional rough seas (2–4 foot swells), but our wide-hulled design handles it elegantly. December and peak rainy season (June–July) sees choppy conditions and occasional cancellations. We recommend booking 3–6 months in advance to secure your preferred dates and vessel.

Our longest-staying guests have been two couples who rebooked our vessel for back-to-back charters. They spent 18 days aboard. On day 16, we found them sitting on the bow, watching the sunset in silence. One of them said: “We haven’t turned on a laptop in two weeks. We haven’t checked email. We haven’t thought about our jobs. We’ve had 18 sunsets, 36 dives, and 54 conversations we’d forgotten we wanted to have.” They booked a third charter before leaving.

Onboard Connectivity & Digital Detox

We offer satellite internet (Iridium system) with speeds sufficient for email, messaging, and light video calls. Most guests check in once per day, then disconnect. A few corporate clients livestream presentations from our bridge. But the default setting? Phones stay in cabins. Email happens on the dive platform at sunset. Truly present evenings become a feature of our trips, not a bug. Guests consistently report that the first three days feel “weird” (where’s my phone?), and by day five, they stop missing it entirely.

FAQs

What’s the difference between your catamarans and typical monohull charters?

Width. Our phinisis are 40+ feet wide, creating exceptional stability and minimal rolling motion. Typical monohulls are 15–20 feet wide and much narrower. Additionally, we offer nearly 3x the deck space, private cabins (no shared dormitories), and a dedicated crew of 5–6 people. You’re genuinely comfortable on our vessels, not just tolerating being at sea.

Can non-swimmers join?

Absolutely. While most guests love diving and snorkeling, you don’t have to. We’ve had non-swimming guests who spent their days on the deck, in kayaks, exploring islands on foot, or reading books while others dove. Island hiking is excellent. Kayaking through mangrove forests is magical. You’ll have an extraordinary experience without ever entering the water.

What happens if weather gets rough?

Our wide-hulled design handles normal roughness elegantly. If severe weather emerges (cyclone forecast, etc.), we adjust our itinerary (move to more protected anchorages) or reschedule the charter. We carry comprehensive travel insurance and operate only during optimal seasonal windows, so severe weather is rare.

Can we customize the itinerary?

Yes. While we have standard routes (southern passage, northern passage, the Four Islands), we adjust based on guest interests, weather windows, and wildlife sightings. Want extra diving? Fewer activities, more relaxation? Island camping? We work with you to design the perfect rhythm.

Are meals included?

Yes. All meals, coffee, tea, and soft beverages are included. Alcoholic beverages (wine, spirits) are available at cost. We accommodate all dietary restrictions with advance notice.

What should we pack?

Swimwear (multiple), lightweight quick-dry clothing, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, SPF 50+), prescription medications, a light rain jacket, and an open mind. We provide towels, toiletries, and diving equipment (or you can bring your own). Formal clothing isn’t necessary—casual elegance is the vibe.

Do you offer discounts for groups or longer stays?

Yes. Groups of 8+ receive a 10% discount. Stays longer than 10 days receive a 15% discount. Repeat bookings (second charter with us) receive a 5% loyalty discount. Combine these and a two-week group charter could yield 25–30% savings.

What’s included in the per-person price?

Accommodation, all meals, snorkeling/diving access and guidance, island activities, professional media (if requested), taxes, and crew gratuity (15% typically added to final bill). Not included: airfare, travel insurance, diving certifications (if needed), and personal items.
