World-Class Diving in Earth’s Marine Epicenter
Signature Dive Sites
Cape Kri
World record: 374 fish species counted in a single dive. Strong currents bring massive schools of barracuda, giant trevally, and reef sharks past pristine coral walls. The dive that defines Raja Ampat’s reputation. Intermediate to advanced.
Blue Magic
Open-water seamount delivering big pelagic encounters — manta rays, grey reef sharks, massive schools of fusiliers, and occasional eagle rays. The blue water surrounding this submerged pinnacle attracts marine predators in impressive concentrations. Advanced.
Manta Sandy
Shallow cleaning station where reef manta rays circle overhead within meters of divers. One of the most reliable manta encounters in Asia. Sandy bottom at 14-18 meters with cleaning stations active throughout the season. All levels.
Melissa’s Garden
Pristine hard coral garden rivaling any reef on Earth. Table corals spanning 3+ meters, staghorn forests, and reef fish in kaleidoscopic abundance. The quintessential Raja Ampat reef dive — perfect for photography. All levels.
Sardine Reef
Named for the massive baitball encounters that occur when conditions align. Coral-covered walls dropping into blue water, resident sea turtles, sweetlips, and batfish schools. Excellent macro life including pygmy seahorses. Intermediate.
Magic Mountain
Remote seamount in Misool region serving as a manta ray cleaning station with simultaneous reef shark patrols. Worth the journey to southern Raja Ampat alone. Best accessed on 8+ day liveaboard expeditions. Intermediate to advanced.
Chicken Reef
Dramatic wall dive with overhangs, caves, and swim-throughs encrusted with soft corals. Wobbegong sharks resting under table corals, cuttlefish, and macro treasures throughout. Protected from currents — excellent for extended exploration. All levels.
Boo Windows
Dramatic limestone archways creating underwater windows framed by sea fans and soft corals. Swim through tunnels connecting different reef systems. Theatrical lighting effects as sunlight penetrates the windows. Unique topography. Intermediate.
Dive Sites by Region
Dampier Strait — The Marine Epicenter
The nutrient-rich channel between Waigeo and Batanta islands concentrates Raja Ampat’s most accessible world-class sites. Cape Kri, Blue Magic, Sardine Reef, Manta Sandy, Mioskon, Melissa’s Garden, and Chicken Reef all lie within this channel. Most boat tours and liveaboard itineraries prioritize Dampier Strait for its concentration of elite sites accessible within short transit times.
Misool & South Raja Ampat
Remote southern reaches accessible on 8+ day expeditions. Magic Mountain’s manta cleaning station, Boo Windows dramatic topography, pristine soft coral walls, and schooling fish concentrations rivaling Dampier. Misool marine reserve represents some of the least-dived premium sites in the archipelago.
North Raja Ampat & Wayag
Wayag’s waters feature blue-water reef systems, reef shark patrols, and pristine coral coverage. Fiabacet delivers powerful current dives with massive fish aggregations. Northern sites reward commitment with uncrowded conditions and frontier exploration.
