How to Get to Raja Ampat – Step-by-Step Travel Guide

Getting to Raja Ampat requires a bit more planning than mainstream beach destinations, but the reward is one of Earth’s most spectacular and uncrowded paradises. This guide covers every step from international arrival to vessel embarkation.

Step 1: Fly to Indonesia

International flights arrive at Jakarta (CGK), Bali (DPS), or Singapore (SIN) as common gateway cities. From there, domestic flights connect to Sorong—Raja Ampat’s gateway city.

Step 2: Domestic Flight to Sorong (SOQ)

Sorong is the departure point for all Raja Ampat experiences. Daily flights operate from Jakarta (4 hours direct), Makassar (3 hours), Manado (2.5 hours), and Ambon (1.5 hours). Airlines: Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, Batik Air, Sriwijaya.

For travelers coming from Bali, the most common route is Bali → Jakarta → Sorong (total 5-6 hours with connection). Our Bali-Raja Ampat packages handle all domestic flights.

Step 3: Sorong to Raja Ampat

Cruise guests: Our team meets you at Sorong airport and transfers you directly to your vessel—typically anchored at Sorong port. Embarkation takes 30-60 minutes from landing.

Resort guests: Speedboat transfers from Sorong to resorts take 1-3 hours depending on location. Or take the public ferry to Waisai (2 hours, departing daily at 2 PM).

Marine Park Permit

All visitors must purchase a Raja Ampat Environmental Service Levy (PIN/RAP tag): 1,000,000 IDR (~$65 USD) for foreign visitors, valid for one year. We arrange this in advance for all guests.

Tips

Book domestic flights early in peak season. Arrive in Sorong the day before embarkation for flight delay buffer. We arrange overnight hotel in Sorong if needed. Travel insurance covering remote-area evacuation is strongly recommended.
